Manager, Music Catalog Exploitation

Job Location – Culver City, CA

Type – 12+ Month Contract (4x onsite per week)

Rate – $30.00 – $35.00 per hour

Required Skills:

As part of the Music Administration team within Music Affairs, the Manager of Music Catalog Exploitation will focus on generating revenue by licensing studio-owned or controlled musical works. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing incoming music licensing requests, securing all necessary approvals and clearances, negotiating deal terms, issuing quotations, and drafting and issuing sound recording and synchronization licenses.
  • Tracking licensing revenue, producing licensing reports, and coordinating royalty payments to income participants.
  • Developing marketing and promotional plans to promote the use of studio music and to pitch songs for potential placement into trailers, advertisements, and other audio/visual works.
  • Conducting music rights research and contributing to the department’s rights management system.

1.       Managing all incoming music licensing requests, including logging requests into a database, circulating requests with approval parties, negotiating usage rights and fees with licensees, issuing quotations, drafting and issuing form licenses, and securing executed agreements. 50%
2.       Conducting research when needed to confirm ownership and/or administration rights, including reviewing contracts/legal files and entering the research results into a rights management system. 25%
3.       Managing licensing revenue, including ensuring licenses are paid in full, tracking income receipts and coordinating with our royalty administrator to ensure all income participants are paid in a timely manner. 10%
4.       Developing marketing and promotional plans to promote the use of studio music both internally and by third-party licensees. 10%
5.       Producing licensing reports to meet financial, administrative, and union-related reporting requirements. 5%


Education, Years of Experience, Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:

  • BA in film, tv, music, business, communications, etc.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in music licensing and/or administration at a production company, film/television studio, record label, music publisher, production music library, etc.
  • Knowledge of music licensing, song research and rights negotiation, synchronization and sound recording rights.
  • Ability to interpret music contracts and extract rights information
  • Passion for film/tv music and visual media.
  • Keen negotiating skills, works well under pressure and tight deadlines, ability to accurately manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to process and navigate fast-moving, high amounts of data and paperwork.
  • Proactive team player and motivated, solution-oriented self-starter.
  • Organizational skills and thorough due diligence.
  • Established relationships in the field with rights holders, music supervisors, and creatives.
  • Ability to professionally and personably communicate in all manners internally and with clients both written and verbal.
  • Savvy with technology, database management, and asset requests/delivery.
